We bought this safe mainly to protect important documents (birth certificates, social security cards, etc.) in the event of a fire. Bonus: it has a lock to help deter thieves.
I love that the inside is big enough to hold legal-sized documents without folding them. It's deep enough to hold a good-sized bundle of papers, as well as CDs, DVDs, memory sticks, external hard drive...even jewelry!
The safe is heavy, so it's not meant to be carted around everywhere. We found a little corner in which to store ours. It comes with 2 keys, which is great for those of us who tend to misplace things. :)
It takes a little bit of practice to get the lid to open (tip: make sure it's unlocked, then use one hand to push down on the top of the lid while the other hand pushes up on the red latch.)
Overall, it seems to be a good investment! Hopefully we never have a fire to put it to the test, but it does give me some peace of mind.
